Overcoming fear of Heights

 

Fear of heights (Acrophobia), is something that greatly affects people’s lives every single day.

If not taken care off, it can cause people to feel less confident, insecure, and it can greatly limit their potential

It might seem tough to face this fear but with a little bit of help it can be done:

Steps to overcome your fear of heights:

1.    Reflect

You are born with only two fears, the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises. All other fears you developed on the way. Reflect on your past, and reason why you are scared of heights. This is the first step to overcome your phobia.

2.    Expose Yourself

To defeat your fear of heights, you must gradually face your fear and not be afraid of failiure.

  • Slowly increase your exposure
  • Go on taller and taller buildings, and start looking out of windows
  • Go out on balconies and sky decks
  • Go on planes and start looking out on windows

* Take it at your own speed. As you get comfortable with each step, then move on, there is no need to rush yourself.

3.    Stabilize your mind

When at high heights, remind yourself that you’re safe. Secure yourself and just get it into your head. Your phobia is all in your mind and only you have the power to get rid of it.

Tips

  • Never lose hopefulness, you can and will!
  • Don’t be too bold, if you rush this process it can you cause you a negative effect and you might have to start back from step 1
  • Always talk to your doctor throughout, a doctor can guide you in a more customized way, which will be better
