Every year earth day is celebrated on 22 April worldwide. The reason for it is American Senator Gaylord Nelson. He was the one who drew the attention of America to the dire consequences happening due to the development of industries and other destructive needless human greedy activities. Gaylord had been struggling with environmental pollution for many years. He carried out and supported different movements and adopted other ways to protest against the cause of earth pollution.
The earth has naturally enough to fulfill our needs but not our limitless desires. In the name of modern development, we cannot mask and justify the harm we have done so far and still show no sign to stop. The kind of development that we talk of today has misbalanced the earth. It can lead to the exhaustion of valuable resources, and then what will we do? It is believed that rapid industrialization is a curse for humans and every species on the planet as it is one of the most prominent reasons for pollution on earth.
The world population is around 7 billion today and is constantly increasing. Under the influence of its unlimited desires, greed-centered humans exploit the resources on earth and pollute the planet and its atmosphere. As a result, underground water is decreasing. Forests are declining, and hence global warming gases like CO2 are increasing. It has resulted in unpredicted weather and climate, tsunami, excessive flooding, and excessive drought. Human tampering with the earth and nature leads to disasters like earthquakes. Industrialization and vehicles are increasing the number of poisonous and greenhouse gases.
It’s high time that we become conscious of our actions. Otherwise, it can lead to even more dire consequences like extreme famine and poisonous air to breathe. What will you have to give and tell your next generation when they would ask, despite being the most intelligent creatures on earth, why we could not balance the ecosystem and keep it healthy. We have to think and go sustainably; that is, we are not to use resources and exploit earth unconsciously but responsibly keep it conserved for successive generations.
God made this earth and world beautiful, but we humans have come so far when it comes to making it hell. And now we are searching for life on another planet after spoiling the planet gifted to us.
Today earth is exploited worldwide. Factories’ effluents get into the water bodies from which we get the drinking water. The smoke from vehicles is making the whole atmosphere poisonous. The unstoppable exploitation of resources and pollution leads to an increase in global warming. It is a matter of worldwide concern. We have to apply brake now. We cannot destroy nature and let anyone do so. If we keep crossing our limits, then the same planet will wipe us off its land. So, we are leading to our destruction.
The least we can do to save the earth and ourselves is to reduce human activities. Reduce tampering with nature and the earth and plant more trees than cut them. Adopt three R’s- Reduce, reuse and recycle. Remember, there is no second planet. Walk or use bicycle where possible instead of vehicle run on petrol and diesel. It will not only prevent the pollution on earth but also will keep you fit. In a nutshell, go as much ecological as possible. To remind ourselves of our duty towards the earth, I want to share some earth day quotes.
